For the first time in Euro
2016 Belgium put on a performance befitting of their Fifa ranking (No.2). The
beat Hungary 4-0 to progress to the quarter-finals.
Toby Alderweireld gave
Belgium the lead in the tenth minute when he rose above the Hungarian defence
to nod in the KDB's free-kick from the left. Belgium doubled their lead when Eden Hazard played a
wonderful cross to set up Michy
Batshuayi for his
first goal of the tournament. Ten minutes from time, the captain scored a
brilliant solo goal as he cut in from the left and unleashed a shot that evaded
the reach of Kiraly and nestled into the bottom corner. Towards the end of the
game, substitute Carrasco scored the 4th goal when Nainggolan slipped the ball
through to the winger inside the box.
Belgium face Wales in the
quarter-finals.
