France are clearly the favourite when they take on the Republic
of Ireland in the pre-quarters. The hosts were the first to qualify after
winning their first 2 matches but they have not looked convincing. With the
star power in midfield and in the attack, expectations on Didier Deschamp's
side are huge.
Meanwhile, Ireland after defeating Italy in the final group
match looks confident and optimistic. They started the tournament on a wrong
note but they have turned their charm brilliantly. However, to defeat France on
their home turf, they must be organised, consistent and lucky too.
