Former Everton and
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta, who retired at the end of last season, has
confirmed that he will be joining Pep Guardiola's coaching staff at Manchester
City, 34-year-old Arteta had an injury-affected campaign last season, which is
why he decided to hang up his boots. He confirmed the news via his social media
account and said, "I can confirm that I will be leaving Arsenal and
retiring from playing to take up a coaching position at Manchester City."
It is believed that
Pep Guardiola highly values his compatriot's insight and reading of the game -
a trait which saw him captain the Gunners on many occasions.
