FRANCE 2 - 1 REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
2 goals from Antoine Griezmann in the 2nd half took hosts France
to the quarters of Euro 2016. Ireland had a perfect start when they were
awarded a penalty in the 2nd minute. Robbie Brady made no mistake to give
Ireland a shock lead. Martin O'Neill's men looked to hold on to their lead
after scoring the first goal?. Kingsley Coman was introduced in the 2nd half
for N'Golo Kante and that made the difference as France started to pressure and
create more chances. In the 57th minute, Griezmann found the equaliser through
a perfect header from 12 yards. Within 4 minutes, France took the lead when
Giroud headed a ball towards Griezmann who drilled it to the far corner. Ireland's
Shane Duffy was sent off in the 66th minute for committing a late tackle on
Griezmann. The remaining minutes saw France in total control of the game but
they failed to increase their lead.
