OWN
GOAL TAKES WALES TO QUARTERS
Northern Ireland 0 - 1 Wales
Northern Ireland's Gareth McAuley's own goal ensured Wales a
spot in the quarters. The tense British derby was equally poised and chances were
created at both ends. Northern Ireland's organised defence prevented Bale and
co from playing to their full potential. Bale was marked all the time and
Ireland defenders ensured that he never gets any space. At the same time Wales
goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey had to make a few stunning saves. Later in the 2?nd
half, Wales started to create clear chances and a Bale free kick nearly put
them in front. In the 75th minute, Aaron Ramsey found Bale in space and the
Real Madrid winger's perfect ball into the box was tapped into his own goal by
McAuley. Though Ireland player's crowded the Welsh box towards the end, they
failed?? to really test Hennessey.
