Lionel Messi announced his retirement after Argentina lost to Chile in the finals of the Copa America Centenario. Messi missed a penalty in the shootout and made the decision right after the match. The whole team is under criticism for failing at the last stage on 3 occasions. Meanwhile, the President of Argentina, Mauricio Macri took it out to his social media handle to express his pride in their national team. He wrote: I never feel greater pride in our team. I hope the joy of seeing the best in the world will continue for many years more." A spokesman for Argentina’s president said, "He [Macri] called him [Messi] and told him how proud he feels of the national team's performance and asked him not to listen to the criticism.
